Literature and politics have a subtle relationship, and the combination of the two has produced many classic poems. However, in the 20th century, the combination of literature and politics aroused more suspicions. Once the literature detached itself from politics, it was regarded as losing the independence of the arts and becoming a tool for political exploitation. On the one hand, literature must maintain its own independence. On the other hand, literature, as a cultural product, inevitably maintains contact with society, politics and history. Northern Ireland poetry of the 1970s and 1980s faced this dilemma. But to some extent, this predicament also stimulated a great release of creativity and imagination in the region, contributing to the prosperity of contemporary Northern Ireland poetry.
