The basic principles and outstanding advantages of variable structure control are introduced. The design method of switching function in variable structure system, the characteristics of variable structure system and the variable structure control theory of nonlinear system are introduced. Finally, the application and development status of nonlinear variable structure control theory in power system control are introduced.
