2001年6月1日,从联想集团分拆出来的神州数码公司股票在香港联合交易所正式挂牌上市,发行价每股3.68港元,上市当天股票以4.0港元收盘,这是应该载入神州数码史册的日子。在随后几天的交易时间里,神州数码表现良好。大股东联想控股神州数码50%的股份,公司的领导者对于此次战略调整的主要意图是:主动将神州数码分拆出去上市后,融资3.7亿元,让神州数码在资本市场迅速壮大,争取在5年内再造一个新联想,用神州数码总裁郭为的话讲:“也许再过10年,这就是两艘航母”。随着神州数码的成功上市,联想集团规模最大、持续时间最长的一次战略性调整宣告结束。5年计划的制定,也显示了神州数码“锻造一个与联想齐名的品牌”的决心。
