《水浒传》从民间传说到成书经历了宋、元、明三个朝代,在有限的对于女性的叙述中,反映了特定历史时期的妇女观,留下鲜明的儒家思想的烙印,主要体现在封建礼教对女性的禁锢和蔑视,然而,另一方面宋元之际又是中国古代城市经济空前发展的时代,市民阶层壮大,市民意识增强,反映到作品中的妇女观也鲜明地显示了一些进步,冲破了传统的儒家思想观念,流露出些许的民主思想。
