An adjustable frequency selective surface (FSS) absorber with a metallic conductive backsheet is discussed. The impedance layer of this FSS absorber is lossless and the lumped components are loaded symmetrically onto the FSS cycle cell. The resonance frequency of the FSS periodic elements shifts within a specific frequency band as the lumped element resistance changes. The adjustable bandwidth with reflection loss below -20 dB covers 6 to 12 GHz and the reflection, transmission characteristics of the absorber Basically not affected by incident angle of incident wave. The incident wave is essentially eliminated by the FSS absorber and the absorber is much thinner than the conventional FSS absorber.
