E.T.A.Hoffman is one of the important representative writers of the German romanticism, whose works are more imaginative and weird in color; Junte Grasse is an important writer in the contemporary Federal Republic and his works are rich in imagination and novel in language. Although the two writers are distant from each other and seemingly irreconcilable, both works are deeply revealing the social reality with a thick fairy tale color, such as Hoffman’s “Golden Pot,” “ Sand man ”and so on, Glass’s“ flounder ”,“ mother rat ”and so on. Especially in Hoffman’s “Dwarf Chahees” and Glass’s “Tin Drum”, all dwarf dwarfs are the protagonists. On the one hand, they are all based on the contemporary local real society at the time. On the other hand, There are surreal magic, fairy tale means strong. This article is based on the motif of the dwarf, trying to analyze the dwarf image of the fairy tales and reality in the two works.
