The contrastive analysis of the basic symbolic meaning of color words in different national languages can understand the national characteristics of color words from different perspectives. The similarities and differences of the cultural connotation of the color words in Mongolian and Japanese languages originated from the different social and cultural backgrounds of the Japanese and Mongolian peoples and reflected their different cultural psychology from one side. Moreover, the differences between the two peoples’ geographical environment, national history, moral beliefs, psychological characteristics, customs, values and ways of thinking also make their color words show different semantics. Starting with the four color words “red, white, black and blue”, this paper analyzes the use of color words in both Mongolian and Japanese languages and compares the differences in color culture between the two countries from a linguistic point of view.
