Objective To establish a reasonable body mass reference value for Mongolian children and adolescents aged 7-18 years. Methods The subjects were from the survey data of “National Student Physical Health Survey” in 2000 and 2005 in Tongliao, Mongolia. In 2000, a total of 5 563 valid participants were obtained. The age-specific body mass index was used to divide the sample into the optimal age groups by using the method of orderly sample clustering analysis. The range of reference values for body mass of all ages was established by using the dispersion method. The effective number of 2,990 people, to verify the normal range of reference value. Results The urban boys were divided into 5 best age groups of 7 to 8 years old, 9 to 11 years old, 12 to 13 years old, 14 to 15 years old and 16 to 18 years old. The township men were divided into 7 to 9 years old and 10 to 12 years old , 13 ~ 14 years old, 15 ~ 16 years old, 17 ~ 18 years old and other 5 best age groups; urban and rural women are divided into 7 to 8 years old, 9 to 10 years old, 11 years old, 12 to 13 years old, 15 years old, 16 to 18 years of age, the best six age groups, the establishment of the Mongolian children and adolescents body mass reference standard, a total of 32 reference values. Conclusion The reference standards for body mass of children and adolescents established in this study highlight the simple and practical features while at the same time filling in the lack of age-specific body mass standards for Mongolian children and adolescents, and to prevent malnutrition among Mongolian children and adolescents, overweight And obesity have some guiding significance.
