中国工笔画在中国绘画2000多年的历史中占据了半边天的位子,另外一半则是水墨画,据史册记载是先有工笔后有水墨的。工笔画包含有人物、花鸟、山水,其中主要以工笔人物画为主。史上最早期工笔人物画则是在湖南长沙出土的《人物菱风》和《人物驭龙》两幅汉墓帛画,该作品以人物为主,用黑色线条描绘的技法,色彩简单,却有装饰的意味,采用丝织品为载体,充分体现了早时工笔人物画的风格。而唐代工笔人物画进入到其巅峰时期,表现形式各异,异彩纷呈,出现了“百家争鸣”的情形。近代以来,很多优秀的工笔画家不断涌现,也引进了西方绘画的技巧和方法,与中国传统的绘画相结合,汲取传统及中外的绘画精髓,使工笔人物画创作不拘一格,将题材和形式多样化,充分发挥艺术家的想象力和表现力,将更多的艺术形态加入到工笔人物的创作中来。
