Elevated lysozyme activity in cerebrospinal fluid may be of interest in the identification of diseases that involve the central nervous system and is elevated in patients with bacterial meningitis. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the diagnostic value of lysozyme activity in cerebrospinal fluid for bacterial meningitis and viral meningitis. The authors measured the lysozyme in cerebrospinal fluid in children with normal, sterile and bacterial meningitis, the results shown in Table 1. All cerebrospinal fluid cultures were confirmed as cases of bacterial meningitis, with all lysozyme levels elevated
