metonymy是英语里常见的一种修辞手段。多年来国内有影响的英汉词典,从60年代张其春、蔡文萦合编的《简明英汉词典》,到《新英汉词典》(上海译文出版社)、《远东英汉大词典》(梁实秋主编)以至近年的《英汉词海》(王同忆主编)、《英汉大词典》(陆谷孙主编)等等,均无例外地将这一修辞格名称译为“换喻”或“转喻”,似乎已成为定译。但笔者认为这译名有重新考虑的必要。 理由之一,是这种译法有歪曲该修辞格的
