The U.S. Multipurpose Munitions (MPIM) program forms part of the development of many portable light antitank weapons in the US Army in the 1970s and 1980s. The U.S. Army believes that any infantry soldier, any weapon that can be carried beyond his rifles and other commonly used combat equipment, can not penetrate the front armor and destroy a modern main battle tank. The main countermeasure to this argument is to develop a multipurpose weapon for infantry solider to deal with all sorts of goals from personnel to the workshop. The requirements the U.S. Army drafted for the MPIM are: (1) Destroying and damaging bunkers and field fortifications with soil / timber structure; (2) Destroying and killing all thin-walled vehicles (trucks), armored personnel carriers and infantry combat vehicles Personnel; ③ can penetrate 8 inches (20.3 cm) of concrete and 12 inches (30.5 cm) brick wall; ④ maximum length of 32 inches (81.37 cm), weighing no more than 10 pounds
