There is an essential difference in glycometabolism between malignant and normal cells. Under normoxic conditions, normal cells produce ATP by oxidative phosphorylation, whereas tumor cells are highly dependent on glycolysis. A comprehensive understanding of the unique glucose metabolism of tumor cells will help to find more effective oncology drugs that target the metabolic pathway of glucose, which will greatly affect the effect of tumor therapy. This article describes the role of the Warburg effect in tumors, the study of the glycolysis pathway as a therapeutic target for cancer, and the advances in the oxidative phosphorylation pathway.
