The classic movie Forrest Gump was adapted from the novel of the same title published in 1986 by American writer Winston Groom. It described an inspirational story that a boy named Forrest Gump with congenital mental retardation strove to become stronger and finally worked wonders in many fields. This film reveals that parents are the best teachers of the children and expounds the significance of family education. Through the interpretation of the film Forrest Gump, this paper presents some American family educational concepts reflected in the film. It aims to make more people aware of the shortcomings of contemporary Chinese family education and encourage embracing democratic and open American family educational values.
