The levels of urinary norepinephrine (UNE) and epinephrine (UE) in 60 patients with essential hypertension (EH) and 31 normal controls were measured to observe the effect of sympathetic nerve activity (EH). The levels of UNE in EH group were significantly higher than those in normal group at 24h, day and night (P <0.01). However, the content of UE in EH group was not significantly different from that in normal group (P> 0.05). The levels of UNE in the normal group were significantly higher than those in the night (P <0.01), while those in the EH group were not (P> 0.05). The mean value of the UNE plus 2s (+ 2s) . EH patients at 24 hours and night UNE levels were higher than the normal high limit accounted for 19 cases (31.7%) and 12 cases (2%). Reflects some patients with sympathetic EH activity may be significantly higher.
