“Iron girl ” is a kind of special appellation appearing for a specific female group after the founding of the People’s Republic of China. In eradicating the massive mass water-control campaigns in the Haihe River, the state clearly stipulates that young men and women go out to work, but many “Iron Maiden” Shanghai Rivers have emerged. Some even lasted for many years. The reason why this obviously irregular phenomenon was affirmed and greatly extolled was closely related to the background of the times and the political system. Although the “iron girl” of the Haihe site made a certain contribution to water conservancy construction, its propaganda meaning far surpassed the actual labor effect.
