对所见《浇愁集》的版本进行介绍,考订其成书年代、作者生平大略和版本间的演变关系。在与《聊斋志异》的比较中阐释它的思想内涵、艺术特点及其在中国小说史上的地位。指出邹弢写作《浇愁集》与蒲松龄写作《聊斋志异》有着十分相类的动因--也是为了写愁抒愤;《浇愁集》颇有《聊斋志异》的精神和余韵--它一方面对黑暗的社会现实进行猛烈的批判、抨击;对浇薄的世风世相、人心的险恶难测、富者的为富不仁给予深刻的揭露和嘲讽;对士林恶习、科举弊端作出十分深刻的揭露批判;一方面则热情讴歌人间诚挚的爱情和友情;《浇愁集》也与《聊斋》一样叙事委蛇曲折,文风沉思翰藻。然而《浇愁集》又有着自己所处时代的脉跳和特色:内容上反映的是那个时代的现实,写作上也分明带着那个时代的特点--浸透着作者的主体人格精神,思想激进,文风激烈、直截。
