朱宝祥(1914-1994),江苏南通市人。其父朱汇泉,为通派盆景著名艺人。朱宝祥12岁随父学艺,同时亦拜通派盆景名家金保生、杨甫之为师,潜心遨游于通派盆景艺术园地。26岁时,受聘于上海荣毅仁公馆等处,管理花卉盆景。1952年开始,一直在南通市劳动人民文化宫专事盆景创作工作,曾任南通市园林学会常务理事等职。朱宝祥一生致力于通派盆景艺术发展,创作甚丰。在传统“两弯半”造型上,他总结出“满、残、清、奇、古、怪”的选材六字诀,推出独树一帜的“贴骨棕”棕法。在继承通派盆景传统技艺的基础上,他广摄诸流派盆景之长,融会贯通,师法自然,推陈出新,创作了《源远流长》(悬崖式)、《听涛》(悬崖式)和《金蛇狂舞》、《五本同源》等自然式盆景精品。他还融树桩盆景与山水盆景技法于一炉,创作了造型新颖的《峰峦叠翠》等“岭盆”精品。综观诸多作品,无不具有造型奇特,结构严谨,古朴苍劲,盘根错节,意境深远等特点,对通派盆景艺术的发展作出了巨大的贡献。
