Because of the costly and unpredictable damage to truck roller bearings, some railway companies have set up low-speed train monitoring stations in or near important shunting yards. Where the train is running at low speed, it can take out excess noise patterns showing damaged bearings and detect suspicious wheelsets. Found up to 99% of the defects can be scrapped, including defects in the inner and outer raceway bearing cone spalling, deformation and taper roller cracks. The article introduced the method of using acoustics to distinguish the defect of bearing parts, and introduced the progress and method of diagnosing with combination of infrared thermal axis detection and vibration measurement technology.
