The powder metallurgy industry is facing the challenge of increasingly demanding parts with high mechanical strength and high dimensional stability. Synchronizer hubs, sprockets and gears are examples of such applications in the automotive industry. The dimensional stability of powder metallurgy sintered parts is influenced by many factors: powder mix composition, additive selection, mixing methods, shipping, pressing, sintering and post-sintering treatments. This article assesses and quantifies the impact of such factors as the mix composition and type of additive on the dimensional stability of parts made from high-performance materials. Statistical tools were used to analyze important parameters that affect dimensional stability and to quantify the impact
