While the importance of cross-industry diversification across multinational conglomerates is growing rapidly, we cannot limit our observations to this phenomenon. We should also conduct an in-depth investigation of its causes and effects. The economic research literature generally classifies the determinants of diversification into the following: (1) a large amount of research and development work; (2) corporate reputation; (3) concentration; and (4) growth. The following is a brief explanation of this basic principle. It is a prerequisite for companies to focus on a group of well-trained and experienced people who are fully engaged in development and research work for large-scale cross-industry corporate activities. In this way, high-tech-based industries will inevitably spend a lot of money on research and development to find a variety of cross-industry diversification operations that go beyond the scope of their main activities.
