A 28-year-old normal East Indian was found to have an Y-arm brachial inversion. According to this review of the literature, it has been concluded that the inversion of the Y chromosome does not prevent the generation of normal spermatozoa and does not cause non-segregation of other chromosomal offspring. Therefore, the concept of early undividedness was ruled out, and it was accidental that the anomalies of aneuploidies and Y inversions were raised. This Y-arm inversion is genetically inherited and of no clinical significance. Men with Y arm inversion in the general population account for about 1/1000. It has been suggested that Y-interchromosomal inversion is a rare chromosomal abnormality and should be referred to as type III.
