This paper describes a computer-aided design methodology (CAE) for cathodic protection analysis of marine structures. This method is called the integral equation method or the boundary element method, which is based on the Green’s third solution. The procedure for this method consists of three steps: generating a model; solving Green’s third formula and examining the potential distribution on the surface of the structure. This article describes this procedure in detail. This method is compared with the traditional method for cathodic protection, and some of the advantages of the former are discussed. Some potential applications and limitations of this approach are pointed out.
