About two years ago, Microsoft warned it would enter the groupware market to compete with the momentum of Lotus Development Notes, which is in its final sprint, but a glance at Microsoft Exchange’s Candidate 2 reveals a problem; Does Exchange really match Lotus Notes? The answer is maybe. On the surface, the two products are somewhat similar and some are the same. For example: Both products have programmable tables that allow information to be sent to discussion groups or shared with others, but there is a fundamental difference between Exchange and Notes in how information is shared across organizations. Essentially, Microsoft Exchange is an electronic messaging system, and Notes is a database.
