Objective To investigate the clinicopathological characteristics and prognosis of colorectal cancer in young people. Methods Retrospective analysis of 151 cases of colorectal cancer patients younger than 40 years old (youth group) from July 1994 to July 2001 clinical data and follow-up data were compared with 465 cases of patients aged 65 years and above Group) of patients with colorectal cancer clinical data were compared. Results There was significant difference in the family history, tumor size, histological type and differentiation degree between the colorectal cancer youth group and the elderly group (P <0.05), but not in the pathological stage, invasion degree and lymph node metastasis There was no significant difference (P> 0.05). The 5-year survival rates of young group and elderly group were 54.6% and 53.1% respectively, with no significant difference (P> 0.05). Conclusion There is no difference in pathological stage and prognosis between colorectal cancer patients and elderly patients. Therefore, age is not the factor that determines the prognosis of colorectal cancer.
