2014年5月5日,在河北秦皇岛是抚宇县驻操营镇板厂峪景区,159号敌楼——160号敌楼之间233米的明长城正在有条不紊地修复中。在清理159号敌楼下长城地基时,守卫长城的将士用泥土自制的象棋被发现。这几十枚象棋子上面用刀或利器刻出文字,从字体上看类似明代的仿宋体。象棋子分两种,一种发黑,一种土黄色。在清理过程中,还发现铜质一支烟锅和一把钥匙,以及五十多枚石雷。159号敌楼外侧围墙上布满了不规则的望孔(射孔),用于瞭望或射击,内大外小,用形制梯形砖镶砌。
