Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an inflammatory demyelination disease of unknown cause. Autoimmunity dh’ected by myelin is considered to play a role in the pathogenesis of disease and most consistently observed immunological aberrations in MS include perivascular accumulation of inflammatory mononuclear cells in early lesions. In this report we determined the cytokines and iNOS messenger RNA (mRNA) expression pattern of blood mononuclear cells in 16 patients with MS and 11 healthy donors using a quantitative reverse transcription in combination with polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR) and Southern blot
