Researchers at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign recently developed a new technology that solders carbon nanotubes one hundred thousandths thinner than hair and completed the smallest mini soldering project in the world. The researchers said the technology is expected to dramatically improve the performance of related equipment and provide the potential for large-scale production and application of carbon nanotubes. Carbon nanotubes, also known as Barquay tubes, are hollow tubes made up of only one atom of carbon atoms. Because of their unique physical and electrical properties, researchers have been exploring the use of silicon to replace traditional circuitry. With carbon nanotube technology to produce low-cost flexible circuit boards, monitors and batteries.
