The fibrinolytic system acts by converting plasminogen to plasmin through plasminogen activator (PA). There are two different endogenous PA, urokinase-like PA (u-PA), a tissue-type PA (t-PA). Saliva has previously been shown to have anti-fibrinolytic activity.
