At the invitation of the Russia Novosibirsk International Centre for Education, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Regional People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries organized and sent 10 pupils aged from 10 to 14 to Novosibirsk City to participate in the Second Session Forum of International Children’s Works of Art and the talent contest and give performance from June 23 to 29, 2006.
At the forum, Xinjiang pupils took part in the dance, vocal music, musical instrument playing, painting and calligraphy contests and gave performance. In the dance contest, members of the Xinjiang delegation performed the Uygur dance Artux, the Kazakh dance Cheerful Little Larks, Xinjiang folk songs and dances (group dancing) and Mongolian solo dance. The audience gave prolonged applause and cheers amid lively atmosphere.
In the musical instrument playing contest, 13-year-old Alikemujiang Tursun played Hami Muqam with rewap, enchanting and amazing the adjudicators and the audience who gave warm applause.
At the exhibition of paintings and calligraphic works, pupils of various countries lingered before the exhibition stall of the Xinjiang delegation, showing great interest and enjoying the paintings and calligraphic works created by the Xinjiang pupils. They consulted the young artists on the creation of these works and asked them to sign their autographs and have pictures taken with them. When having painting and calligraphy exchanges at the Siberia Arts School, the pupils of our delegation created paintings and calligraphic works on the spot. Foreign pupils gasped with admiration at Chinese pupils’ excellent skills and talents.
At the reception of the closing ceremony, Mr. E. I. Sagaidak, who was in charge of the organizing committee, specially mentioned that the Chinese Xinjiang Children’s Art Delegation participated in the forum for the first time and brought wonderful performance, adding colour to the forum. Their visit to Novosibirsk is a bridge-building visit, an art visit and a friendship visit.
Though the delegation’s visit in Novosibirsk only lasted seven days, it gained rich fruits, leaving a beautiful and deep memory in the pupils’ minds.
