In China, paper-cutting has a broad mass base and blends with the social life of people of all ethnic groups. It is an important part of various folk activities. Its visual image and styling format contain rich cultural and historical information and express the good life ideals and aesthetic interests of the general public. On May 20, 2006, the paper-cut artistic heritage was approved by the State Council to be included in the first national intangible cultural heritage list.
