Objective: To investigate the role of soluble intercellular adhesion molecule (sICAM-1) in the development and progression of acute cerebrovascular disease (ACVD). Methods: Serum sICAM-1 levels were measured in 62 patients with ACVD and 25 controls by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: The levels of sICAM-1 in ACVD serum were significantly higher than those in control group (P <0.01). The dynamic observation showed that the sICAM-1 level decreased gradually as the condition improved. The larger the head CT lesion in ACVD patients, the more obvious the increase of sICAM-1 content. Conclusion: The level of sICAM-1 in serum can be used as one of the indicators to judge the change of disease in ACVD patients.
