美国国会两年一次的例行改选,今年在十一月七日举行了。这次改选的重要性,不在于民主党在参众两院的多数结果被大大地削减,不在于共和党(?)得了较多的席位,却在于这次改选过程中,民主、共和两党的腐败和美国政治的黑暗,比近年来美国选举中任何一次都暴露得更多,更清楚。在这次竞选的时期中,民主、共和两党之间,以及两党内部各派别之间,展开了激烈的争权夺利的斗争,而主要的斗争方法就是揭发对方的丑事。采取这种斗争方法的主要原因不外乎下列两个:
The biannual routine re-election by the United States Congress was held this year on November 7. The importance of this re-election does not lie in the fact that the majority of the Democrats in the Senate and the House of Representatives have been greatly curtailed, not in the fact that the Republican Party has gained more seats but in the corrupt process of the Democratic and Republican parties in this election process. And the darkness of American politics are more exposed and clearer than any of the U.S. elections in recent years. During this election campaign, the fierce struggle for power and profit between the two parties, the Democratic Party, the Republican Party and the various factions within the two parties, has started. The main method of struggle is to expose the scandal of the other side. The main reason for this method of struggle is nothing more than the following two:
