World War II did not, as World War I, had a shocking and dramatic impact on the British people, especially on British writers. The general public, already educated by such poets as Wilfred Irvine and Siegfried Susan, has been educated in many novels describing the last world war and has graced the harshness of modern warfare reality. In addition, Alders Heckling and DH Lawrence have warned in advance that the public beware of the dangers posed by the new technology invented for large-scale killings. When young people join this second modern war, they no longer have illusions about honor. The number of soldiers killed in the battlefield in this war is actually far less than in the First World War and the United Kingdom has not lost an entire generation of young people.
