This paper argues that Lolita’s image of “virgins” is Nabokov’s succession and criticism of “innocent children’s views.” Nabokov’s critique of the vulgarity of the adult world through the good image of children is the viewpoint of inheriting and developing Rousseau’s “return to nature.” With the growth of knowledge-based experience, mankind has instead lost his virtuous virtues in nature. The physical fragility of the children not only reflects the cruelty of the adult world but also inherits the literary inheritance of Charles Dickens’ view of children and is consistent with Nabokov’s esthetical aesthetic tendency. However, “innocent” children were over-moralized as signs of lack of sexuality, and the complexities of human nature getting rid of their children’s image were rejected by Nabokov. He not only recognized This is a kind of instinct consciousness, a return of human nature, and highly praised with extremely beautiful brush strokes and given its meaning of redemption.
