历代夜郎郡、县的行政区划及地方史书的记载,揭示了夜郎在乌江流域的沿革演化线索:秦国夜郎县为置换楚国黔中郡土地而建立,西汉中期夜郎县为汉武帝派遣唐蒙与夜郎王谈判后建立,与夜郎国关系最紧密的应该是秦国夜郎县和西汉中期的夜郎县。夜郎国的中心多在乌江流域。
