2012 is the 100th anniversary of the Russian historian Lev Nikolayevich Gumilyov (1912-92). He further developed the philosophical ideas of classical Eurasianism (core is geopolitical thought) that emerged in the Russian nationals in the 1920s and held that the utmost value of Eurasianism is the realization of such scientific alliances as history, geography and natural science. As a representative of the past and the future, Gumilyov played a huge role in the emergence of Russia’s new Eurasianism. Neo-Eurasianism is also concerned with the issue of global geopolitics. It inherits and develops the salvationist tradition of classical Eurasianism and holds that Russia is capable of rejuvenating itself and saving the world.
