Three major advances in production data analysis include the use of flow pressure for analysis; the use of “border-first” equivalent production time functions to generate constant flow and constant pressure equivalence methods; and the use of pseudo-time correction of pressure-dependent changes in gas properties. Their value depends on the quality of the actual production data and, more importantly, on the analyst’s ability to filter out “useless” data to preserve the true reservoir information. The blind use of descending analysis methods without regard to data quality can lead to misinterpretation and erroneous results. Several effective diagnostic methods, some common, and some others are special and can be applied to production data for simple yield charts and advanced sample curves.
