布朗山寨位于海拔1500～2300米的云南临沧地区双江县。这里气候暖和,四季无霜,雨量充沛,土地肥沃,物产丰富,原始森林遮天蔽日。布朗族有本民族的语言,但无文字。布朗语属南亚语系孟高棉语族布朗语支,有布朗语和乌语两种方言。部分人通汉语、傣语和佤语。布朗人村寨多建于海拔2000米左右的密林深处。布朗族喜聚寨而居,通常由三五个至数十个同一血缘的家族聚居。住房造型别致,多为干栏式竹楼,房屋多是上、下两层,房顶双斜,以茅草排覆盖。
