盖斯凯尔夫人(Mrs.Gaskell 1810~1865)是英国维多利亚时期著名批判现实主义作家之一。1810年9月生于伦敦唯一神教派牧师家庭。幼年丧母,寄养在柴郡纳茨福德镇的姨母家,并到邻近的斯特拉特福德镇上学。1832年和曼彻斯特市的唯一神教派牧师威廉·盖斯凯尔结婚。盖斯凯尔的作品虽然主要以工业革命及劳资关系为主题,但是她对茶桌场景的细节描写笔墨较重,对深化作品主题产生重要作用和影响。如在两部代表作中,茶会都在小说的章节题目出现:
Mrs. Gaskell (Mrs.Gaskell 1810 ~ 1865) is one of the famous critical realist writers in Victorian England. Born in September 1810 in London’s only ecclesiastical pastor family. Young mums, foster aunt’s home in Knutsford, Cheshire, and go to the neighboring town of Stratford. Married to William Gaskell in 1832, the only ecclesiastical pastor in Manchester. Although mainly focusing on the industrial revolution and labor relations, Gaskell’s work portrays the details of the tea table with a heavy emphasis on ink and brush, which plays an important role in deepening the theme of the work. As in the two masterpieces, the tea party appeared in the chapter title of the novel:
