A new type of terminal cyano substituted fluorinated tetraphenyl acetylene liquid crystal was designed and synthesized. The phase behavior was studied by means of a polarizing microscope and DSC, which showed only one broad nematic phase. The effects of volume and polarity on the stability of liquid crystal and the temperature range of phase transition are discussed.
