《铁路工程技术规范》第4—14条规定:“牵出线应设在不陡于2.5‰面向编组线的下坡道上或平道上,但坡度牵出线的坡度,不受此限。……”而在《条文说明》中,解释为“牵出线及编组线的坡度规定,主要是考虑调车溜放作业的便利和安全制动。……”因为编组站办理大量货物列车的解体和编组作业。而区段站也办理区段及摘挂列举的解体和编组作业。由于编组站和区段站在作业上的需要和安全的要求,对牵出线和编组线的坡度规定是合理的。但是这对中间站来说(包括有货运作业的客运站),设置牵出线的坡度只要不陡于2.5‰
