The mortality rate of locally advanced breast cancer is high. A retrospective survey of nearly 2,000 patients showed that the 5-year survival rate was only 20%. Occasionally, this type of condition develops rapidly as an inflammatory breast cancer but usually develops slowly. With the increase in public awareness of breast cancer and the progress of its treatment, the incidence of locally advanced breast cancer will gradually decline. At present, there are approximately 3,500 new cases in the United Kingdom each year, accounting for 15%. In developing countries, breast cancer is mostly locally advanced.
