Objective To investigate the changes and clinical significance of serum homocysteine (Hcy) and high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in patients with acute cerebral infarction. Methods Serum levels of hcy and hs-CRP were measured in 36 patients with acute cerebral infarction by EliSA method and immunoturbidimetry, and compared with 35 normal healthy subjects. Results Serum levels of Hcy and hs-CRP in patients with acute cerebral infarction were significantly higher than those in normal controls (P <0.01). Serum Hcy levels were positively correlated with hs-CRP levels (r = 0.5872, P <0.01). Conclusion The serum levels of Hcy and hs-CRP in patients with acute cerebral infarction are positively correlated with the severity of cerebral infarction, which may be used as a sensitive index to predict the occurrence and development of acute cerebral infarction.
