艾丽丝.沃克在《日用家当》中赋予了房子、麦琪身上的伤疤和两床旧的百衲被以不同的象征意义:房子象征了美国黑人妇女赖以生存的家园;麦琪身上的伤疤则是美国种族奴隶制留下的烙印,而被子则是美国黑人民族文化遗产的象征。这些简单的意象,丰富的象征含义,不仅从深层次表明作者自己对民族文化遗产的态度,同时也丰富了整篇小说的内涵。
Alice Walker gave her a house in “Everyday Households,” and Scar on his body and two old ones were symbolized differently: the house symbolizes the homeland where African American women live; the scar on Maggie The mark left by American racial slavery, while the blanket is a symbol of African American national cultural heritage. These simple images and rich symbolic meanings not only demonstrate the author’s own attitude towards the national cultural heritage, but also enrich the connotation of the whole novel.
