Tobacco tumor B6S3 characterized by phytohormones-independence and incapacity to re-generate plant and containing genetic marker-LpDH has been fused with Petunia hybridaW43 possessing the properties in contrast with the tobacco tumor. Using these characteris-tics, we have established a selective system of somatic hybrid in protoplast fusion, andscreened 2% of the continuously growing green calli from fusion products. Twenty-onehybrids from thirty-four regenerated plants are morphologically inclined to Petunia, but thepresence of lysopine dehydrogenase activity in these plants shows that they are of hybridnature.
