Power Synthesizer Design The solid-state transmitter has three major microwave components: a solid-state power amplifier, an RF power driver that delivers RF-driven power to the amplifier, and an output power combiner. This article discusses some of the issues involved in designing a power combiner. In general, the same conditions apply to the input power divider as well, but insertion loss and power capacity are less important. The power combiner collects the output power of all the individual power amplifiers and sends it to a single power output. This synthesis is accomplished as a coherent power summer, which is the arithmetic of all output amplifier components’ power and minus the internal loss.
