In 1981, 45-year-old Jack Welch became the CEO of GE, the youngest CEO in the company’s history. In the following 20 years, he scored a se-ries of prominent achievements, leading GE into the ranks of the world’s top corporations. Thus he was dubbed the world’s most valuable CEO.
One time, Jack played golf with Tiger Woods. They played and chatted, and unknowing-ly Jack was leading. In his words, “At that mo-ment, you could feel that God was with you.” When Tiger Woods realized it and tried to catch up, it was already too late. At last he lost by only one point. Do you know how many people got a copy of the scorecard of that game from Jack? Eight thousand in total!. When Tiger Woods was invited to a meeting and a guy took out the score-card, asking whether he had ever seen it before. Tiger Woods sighed, “I’m wondering how many more I can expect?”
This is Jack Welch: jokes are for being made; goals are for being won.
Milan Kundera wrote a book La Vie est Ailleurs, and I have a good thinking about the title. Our lives are always in the distance, and we are likely to think, “If I’m rich to-morrow, I can...” The truth is that if you are not happy when you don’t make much money now, you won’t be able to be happy even if you have lots of money. If you are not happy when you’re single now, you won’t be able to be happy when you get married.
If you don’t know how to enjoy the pre-sent, you can’t enjoy the future.
