大量证据表明细胞免疫机制在肿瘤排斥中起主要作用,并观察到抗体不是抑制而是促进肿瘤的生长,因此对应用肿瘤相关抗原或肿瘤细胞表面的组织相容性抗原的抗体,进行免疫治疗的可能性多被忽视。然而亦有很多动物试验表明,经适当方法制备的抗血清在一定环境下在体内能抑制肿瘤生长。 基础免疫学的新发现,似乎亦能证实用抗体可以治疗恶性肿瘤。现已发现细胞与免疫机制之间有一个复杂的相互关系(见下图)。
There is ample evidence that cellular immune mechanisms play a major role in tumor rejection and that antibodies are not suppressed but promote tumor growth and are therefore immunotherapeutic for antibodies that utilize histocompatibility antigens on tumor-associated antigens or on tumor cells The possibilities are often overlooked. However, many animal experiments have shown that antisera prepared by appropriate methods can inhibit tumor growth in vivo under certain circumstances. The new findings of basic immunology also seem to confirm the use of antibodies to treat malignant tumors. It has been found that there is a complex relationship between cellular and immune mechanisms (see below).
