由于一直实行相对保守和闭塞的政治和经济政策,数年来叙利亚信息产业的发展总体而言比较滞后。2000年7月新总统巴沙尔上任后,提出了高度重视科学教育,使其有能力为国民经济的发展创造良好基础和条件的政策。巴本人就任总统前曾是叙信息协会主席,对叙的信息产业一直十分关心,并做了大量工作,他提出应使叙每一个家庭都拥有一台电脑,希望叙能够同印度一样,成为计算机程序设计和生产国家。叙新内阁指定一国务部长专门负责叙信息和高科技产业的发展工作,叙日前公布的财政预算中教育和科研经费居首位,表明了叙政府对科技产业的重视。以下是叙信息产业发展概况:
Due to the relatively conservative and blocked political and economic policies, the development of Syrian information industry has lagged over the years in general. After assuming office in July 2000, the new President Bashar put forward a policy that attaches great importance to science education and enabled it to create a sound foundation and conditions for the development of the national economy.
